15 Easter Table Decor Ideas on a Dime

Last Easter, I set the table the night before with things I’d found in the dollar store and the garden, and when my family sat down the next morning, my mum said it looked like I’d hired someone. I hadn’t — I’d spent about fifteen dollars and an hour. Easter is the easiest holiday to decorate for on a dime, because the colours are soft, the flowers are cheap, and a few eggs go a very long way. Save this list before you scroll on, and see my (see also: budget-spring-decor-ideas) and (see also: easter-decor-ideas) for more spring ideas.

1. Pastel Eggs in a Glass Bowl

Fill a clear glass bowl with pastel-painted eggs — real eggs blown out and painted, or faux eggs from the dollar store — and set it in the centre of the table. The soft colours look fresh and spring-like, and the bowl catches the light beautifully. I mix pink, blue, yellow, and mint, and I tuck a few sprigs of greenery between the eggs. My first bowl used only one colour and it looked flat; mixing four pastels changed everything. It cost about four dollars and it’s the centrepiece I reach for every Easter.

2. A Bunny Ear Napkin Fold

Fold a napkin into bunny ears — roll it, fold it in half, and tie the middle with twine so the two ends stand up like ears. It takes a minute per napkin once you’ve practised, and guests always smile when they sit down. I use pastel napkins, and I add a tiny pom-pom tail at the base of each one. My kids learned the fold in one afternoon, and now they do the napkins every Easter without being asked. It’s a small detail that makes the table feel playful and loved.

3. Tulips in Mason Jars

Stand a few faux tulips in a mason jar tied with twine, and make three jars in a row down the centre of the table. The tulips add colour and height, and the jars keep everything simple and rustic. I use tulips in pink, yellow, and white, and I trim the stems to different heights. My jars cost two dollars each, and they get used for every spring dinner, not just Easter. Real tulips work too, and they smell wonderful, but faux ones last all week.

4. A Grass Runner With Speckled Eggs

Lay a strip of faux grass — or a green runner — down the centre of the table, and scatter speckled eggs and tiny flowers along it. It looks like a spring meadow, and it costs almost nothing. I use a runner I already own, and I add the eggs and flowers on top. My grass runner is the centrepiece my family photographs every year, because it looks so fresh and cheerful. Keep the eggs small so they don’t roll off the table, and tuck the flowers into the grass so they stay put.

5. Carrot Place Cards for Each Guest

Cut orange card into carrot shapes, add a green paper top, write each guest’s name on the carrot, and lay one on each plate. It’s a place card and a decoration in one, and kids love it. I make mine the night before, and I keep the carrots small — palm-sized is perfect. My family keeps their carrots after dinner, which tells me it was worth doing. The whole table’s worth of place cards costs about two dollars in card and takes half an hour to cut and write.

Cost: ~$2 | Time: 30 minutes

6. A Wreath as a Table Centrepiece

Lay a spring wreath flat in the centre of the table, and set a pillar candle or a small vase of flowers in the middle of it. The wreath becomes a centrepiece, and the candle glows through the leaves. I use a battery candle so there’s no worry about the greenery, and I choose a wreath that’s flat rather than bulky. My wreath centrepiece cost six dollars, and it moves to the front door after dinner. It’s a decoration that works twice as hard, and it looks lovely.

7. Speckled Egg Garland Across the Table

String small speckled eggs on twine with wooden beads between them, and drape the garland across the table or along the sideboard. The eggs add colour and texture, and the beads keep them spaced evenly. I hang mine in a gentle swag rather than pulled tight, so it drapes like bunting. My garland cost four dollars, and it makes the table feel like Easter has properly arrived. It’s a cheerful, spring-like touch that guests always notice. I hang it where the morning light catches the eggs, and it brightens the whole table.

8. A Cake Stand With a Bunny on Top

Set a small ceramic bunny on a cake stand, add a few speckled eggs around its base, and place it in the centre of the table. Raising the bunny on a stand makes it feel special, and the eggs add colour. I use a bunny I already own, and I change the eggs each year. My cake stand bunny is the centrepiece my kids look for first every Easter, and it’s the first thing I put out. It cost three dollars for the eggs, and the bunny was a gift.

Cost: ~$3 | Time: 5 minutes

9. Pastel Candles in Different Heights

Group three pastel candles — pink, yellow, and mint — of different heights on a tray, and set them in the centre of the table. The varying heights add interest, and the soft colours suit Easter perfectly. I use battery candles for a long lunch, because real candles burn down and drip. My candle cluster sits on a wooden tray, which keeps everything contained and gives it a finished look. It cost six dollars and it’s the simplest centrepiece in this list.

10. A Nest of Twigs With Chocolate Eggs

Shape twigs into a small nest, line it with a little moss or shredded paper, and fill it with chocolate eggs. Set one nest on each plate, or one large nest in the centre of the table. It’s a decoration and a treat in one, and guests love it. I make the nests from twigs I collect in the garden, which costs nothing, and I add the chocolate eggs just before serving so they don’t melt. My nests are the favour guests actually eat, which is the best kind of favour.

Cost: ~$3 | Time: 20 minutes

11. Daffodils in a Teapot

Stand a few daffodils — real or faux — in a teapot, and set it in the centre of the table. The teapot adds a charming, vintage touch, and the yellow flowers brighten the whole room. I use a teapot I already own, and I add a few green leaves for fullness. My teapot daffodils cost four dollars, and they’re the arrangement my mum photographs every year. It’s a simple, lovely centrepiece that works for Easter lunch and for spring dinners all season.

Cost: ~$4 | Time: 5 minutes

12. A Gingham Tablecloth in Pastel

Lay a pastel gingham tablecloth on the table, and the whole room feels like Easter. The check pattern is cheerful and spring-like, and it does the work so the rest of the decorations can stay simple. I choose a soft pink or blue gingham, and I iron it first so it looks crisp. My tablecloth cost seven dollars, and it gets used for every spring lunch, not just Easter. Pair it with plain white plates, and the table looks fresh and clean.

Cost: ~$7 | Time: 5 minutes

13. Egg Cups as Mini Vases

Set a tiny flower — a daisy, a sprig of blossom — into each egg cup, and place one egg cup on each plate. It’s a miniature vase and a place setting in one, and it costs almost nothing. I use egg cups I already own, and I pick the flowers from the garden on Easter morning. My egg cup vases are the detail guests notice when they sit down, and they always make the table feel more special. It’s a five-minute job with a big payoff.

Cost: ~$1 | Time: 10 minutes

14. A “Happy Easter” Banner Above the Table

String a simple “happy Easter” banner — paper letters on twine — above the table or on the wall behind it. It sets the tone for the meal, and it costs almost nothing to make. I cut the letters from pastel card, which looks soft and spring-like, and I hang the banner with removable hooks. My banner stays up all Easter weekend, and I take it down only when the spring decorations go up. It’s a lovely, low-effort way to make the dining room feel festive.

Cost: ~$2 | Time: 20 minutes

15. Lemon Slices and Blossom on Plates

Lay a thin lemon slice on each plate, with a tiny sprig of blossom on top. It looks fresh and elegant, it smells lovely, and it costs almost nothing. I slice the lemons thinly on Easter morning, and I use blossom from the garden. My guests always ask about the lemon slices, and a few take theirs home. The slices also work as a garnish for drinks, which makes them practical as well as pretty. It’s a tiny detail with a big impact, and it’s my favourite Easter table idea.
