About

Hi, I’m Sarah, and I decorate on a dime.

Sarah Miller, the budget home decor blogger behind Cheap Home Decor Ideas

I started this blog at my kitchen table, surrounded by free paint swatches from the hardware store and a secondhand chair I was halfway through re-covering. That was six years ago, and I have been hooked on budget decorating ever since.

My first apartment taught me everything I know. I moved in with a mattress, a hand-me-down sofa, and big dreams. There was no money for a designer or fancy furniture, so I learned to do things myself. I painted walls, refinished a dresser I found on the curb, sewed simple curtains from drop cloths, and spent my Saturdays wandering thrift stores. Slowly, that empty apartment started to feel like home. Friends would visit and ask who decorated, and they never believed me when I told them what I spent.

That is what this blog is about. Not perfection, and definitely not expensive makeovers. It is about real homes, real budgets, and the kind of decorating anyone can actually do on a weekend with a small amount of money and a little courage.

What you will find here

Room-by-room ideas. From cozy living rooms to tiny bathrooms, I share simple changes that make each space feel fresh without costing much. Most of my ideas take an afternoon and less than fifty dollars.

DIY projects. Easy weekend projects with clear steps, using supplies from craft stores, hardware stores, and dollar stores. I test everything myself before I post it, and I always tell you honestly how long it took and what it cost.

Dollar store finds. I love a good dollar store run. I will show you which finds are worth buying and how to style them so they look anything but cheap.

Thrift flips. My favorite hobby. I take worn-out furniture and give it new life with paint, new hardware, and patience. Nothing beats the feeling of turning a ten-dollar dresser into the best piece in the room.

My decorating philosophy

Start with what you have. Shop your own home before you shop a store. A coat of paint, a rearranged room, and a few thoughtful touches can do more than a shopping spree. I also believe in buying secondhand first, choosing a few things you truly love over a lot of things you only like, and letting your home change slowly as your life does.

A little about me: I am a mom, a chronic thrift-store browser, and a firm believer that the best rooms are the ones that get lived in. I am not a professional designer. I am just someone who loves making a house feel like home without spending a fortune, and I am really glad you stopped by.

Want to say hello, share your own project, or ask a decorating question? I would love to hear from you.
